USPI’s “License Free” Self-Service Analytics Portal

IBIS 2019 Butterfly Banner

Monday, June 17th 11:00am – 12:00pm

United Surgical Partners International (USPI) has moved away from a “Push” reporting model to building out a custom Enterprise Business Intelligence Portal where thousands of end-users can go to in order to see their reports and dashboards or build their own reports that they need to make their necessary decisions to run their business. All of which is completely license free! Utilizing the BusinessObjects Launchpad was the “out of the box” solution but required each user to consume a BO License to access their reports and dashboards. Instead, USPI built an enterprise reporting portal that did not require every user to log into BusinessObjects and consume a license. And because the portal needed to provide the capability of ad-hoc query building that could write-back data to a database – USPI discovered that it is, indeed, possible to accomplish a license-free, home-grown portal that still leverages the BusinessObjects toolset. This session will explore how USPI made this vision a reality.

Using Tableau with WebI: From Novice to Knowledge

IBIS 2019 Butterfly Banner

Monday, June 17th 2:15pm – 3:15pm

As report designers, we need to use the best tool for each job. With more than a thousand hands-on consumers of 32,000+ reports, Web Intelligence is our go-to reporting solution at the University System of New Hampshire. Then came Tableau with its bubble charts and heat maps and dashboards and data stories. Not to worry! Tableau experts were hired so that we, Webi developers, could stay happily ensconced in our reporting world. That is until this year when our supervisor tasked each Webi developer with creating a Tableau solution using Webi data. This case study will walk through our learning process, some pitfalls as well as best practices that we learned, and ultimately demonstrate the creation of a call center dashboard using Webi data and Tableau visualizations.

Delivering Analytical Tools Accordingly (DATA)

IBIS 2019 Butterfly Banner

Monday, June 17th 3:45pm – 4:45pm

Everyone needs data. Whether it’s for trending, comparing, analyzing, or decision-making, the need for data to stay informed is crucial. However, as an analyst and developer, how do you decided on what data to provide, how much data, and/or how to present it? Do you build a dashboard? Do you create a canned report? Or do you just simply provide a data dump? In this session we will help you answer these types of Business Intelligence questions and how to use our D.A.T.A. methodology.

At USPI, delivering analytical tools accordingly is what we strive to do every time. This session will discuss how our BI team has used the D.A.T.A. method to provide the right solutions for different departments throughout our company and out in the field.

Moving BusinessObjects onto AWS Cloud at UCSC

IBIS 2019 Butterfly Banner
Monday, June 17th 4:45pm – 5:45pm

This year UCSC moved their BusinessObjects onto the AWS Cloud system. Over the testing phase of the implementation, UCSC worked mainly with InfoSol but also with AWS Consultants. AWS poses some interesting and real challenges in their cloud implementation and this presentation will touch on those as well as how we overcame or worked with them. With the help of InfoSol, we used 360Plus to move data and develop and implement a disaster recovery plan for failover between instances, set up the networking for internal and external communication and were able to interpret what worked internally into working on AWS.
