Delivering Analytical Tools Accordingly (D.A.T.A.)

IBIS 2019 Butterfly Banner

Wednesday, June 19th 11:00am – 12:00pm

Everyone needs data. Whether it’s for trending, comparing, analyzing, or decision-making, the need for data to stay informed is crucial. However, as an analyst and developer, how do you decided on what data to provide, how much data, and/or how to present it? Do you build a dashboard? Do you create a canned report? Or do you just simply provide a data dump? In this session we will help you answer these types of Business Intelligence questions and how to use our D.A.T.A. methodology.

At USPI, delivering analytical tools accordingly is what we strive to do every time. This session will discuss how our BI team has used the D.A.T.A. method to provide the right solutions for different departments throughout our company and out in the field.

IBIS 2019 Butterfly Banner

You would be right!

However, this is a real situation currently being tackled and this presentation will discuss some of the options considered and the plan currently in progress to address the challenge. Topics will include :

  • Retiring Cognos and moving everything to BO 4.1 SP4.
  • Updating BO 4.1 to 4.2 SP7
  • Getting users to utilize BO for BI solutions and not data dumps
  • Utilizing the Data Lake which was implemented but not connected to BO
  • Implementing an Analysis solution Tableau vs Lumira Discovery
  • Bring it all together with Business Objects and the future purchase of InfoBurst for Tableau

USPI’s License Free Self-Service Analytics Portal

IBIS 2019 Butterfly Banner

Wednesday, June 19th 4:45pm – 5:45pm

United Surgical Partners International (USPI) has moved away from a “Push” reporting model to building out a custom Enterprise Business Intelligence Portal where thousands of end-users can go to in order to see their reports and dashboards or build their own reports that they need to make their necessary decisions to run their business. All of which is completely license free! Utilizing the BusinessObjects Launchpad was the “out of the box” solution but required each user to consume a BO License to access their reports and dashboards. Instead, USPI built an enterprise reporting portal that did not require every user to log into BusinessObjects and consume a license. And because the portal needed to provide the capability of ad-hoc query building that could write-back data to a database – USPI discovered that it is, indeed, possible to accomplish a license-free, home-grown portal that still leverages the BusinessObjects toolset. This session will explore how USPI made this vision a reality.
