COURSE DESCRIPTION:  This course covers an introduction to Tableau along with a number of advanced topics to give the attendee the tools to be productive with Tableau. Each 2-hour module will be “hands-on” and will include exercises for the class.

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  Those wishing to boost their Tableau skills.
MAJOR TOPICS INCLUDE:
  • Connecting to data and how to use the data interpreter
  • The data sources available in Tableau with examples of connecting to several different data sources.
  • Examples of data blending and joins with multiple data sources
  • How to use features such as splitting, union and pivoting
  • The different chart types available in Tableau.

  • Advanced calculations.

  • Tableau excels at mapping. In this hands-on session we will cover the following topics:  Articulate Tableau’s geocoding
  • How to use custom Geocoding in Tableau
  • Filled maps vs. symbol maps
  • Creating custom territories
  • Adding map layers
  • Creating custom background maps
  • Building dashboards with maps
  • Visual best practices for using the mapping functionality in Tableau.

Tableau from A-Z: Dashboard Actions and Formatting

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  Those wishing to boost their Tableau skills.
MAJOR TOPICS INCLUDE:

  • Dashboard formatting basics
  • Workbook level formatting (i.e. font styling, titles, lines)
  • Focusing on the narrative
  • Using color with purpose
  • Using fonts that optimize online readability
  • The importance of using tooltips for your audience
  • Removing clutter.

Dashboard actions will be covered as well – this is the functionality in Tableau that allows users to connect workbook elements for interactivity between workbooks in a dashboard.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  This course covers an introduction to Tableau along with a number of advanced topics to give the attendee the tools to be productive with Tableau. This module will be comprised of a lecture and group discussion related to Tableau Server and Tableau Server Administration.
INTENDED AUDIENCE:  Those wishing to boost their Tableau skills.

  • Licensing
  • Installation
  • Creating users
  • Sites, groups, projects
  • Types of roles, permissions
  • Publishing reports and extracts, and Scheduling.

Tableau from A-Z: Integrating Tableau with BusinessObjects

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  This course covers a comparison between Tableau and BusinessObjects – illustrating functionality that is similar – and functionality gaps between the two products. There will be a hands-on component for this part of the presentation. The second part of this presentation will focus on functionality available in InfoTab (InfoBurst with Tableau functionality) that facilitates bridging Tableau with BusinessObjects.
INTENDED AUDIENCE:  Those using both Tableau and BusinessObjects to meet their reporting needs
MAJOR TOPICS INCLUDE:

  • Comparison between Tableau and BusinessObjects functionality
  • Delivering a BusinessObjects report as a Tableau Data extract (TDE)
  • Scheduling BusinessObjects reports to deliver TDE’s to Tableau server

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  The ideas and examples in this session are based on a case study with a client in which existing Webi reports were integrated with Tableau via IBTab and how that meant a different paradigm in reporting and data management.
